Hey guys, I am picking up t61p today. I just wanted to get your advise.
Intel Turbo Memory 1GB yes/no?
Does it worth additional $50? Is there a significant performance difference with or without Intel Turbo Memory 1GB?

Windows Vista Business/Windows Vista Business 64 or XP Pro?

I would really appreciate any comments.

Far from simple questions ...

Turbo memory can help performance some, but the more DDR memory you have, the less impact it'll have. $50 isn't a lot, though, to add to the cost of a T61p. And it'll probably help battery life a little bit as well.

OS choice is personal, really. By now Vista works well, and and all the standard drivers are available. If you need some drivers for old hardware (printers, scanners maybe?) or you have VPN or other similar software that's not supported on Vista, then XP is for you. Otherwise you need to decide what you prefer -- the T61p is certainly plenty powerful for running Vista.

64-bit Vista doesn't gain you much at this point yet, though, apart from the ability to address the full 4 GB of memory, should you have that much.

P.S. I like the signature -- TU Madrid?

So far, tests have been inconclusive in showing the benefits of Intel Turbo Memory. I ordered mine without it.

NO on the turbo memory.
Yes on Windows Vista 32-bit

One more question, guys.

There is a 6459: Express - 1 Yr Depot Warranty included in price, also I bought 3 year depot 9x5 Next Business Day.

that means I have 4 years of warranty in total? (I understand that it is not likely) but could anyone explain how this works?

maybe it is better to buy 3 year depot 9x5 Next Business Day warranty after 6459: Express - 1 Yr Depot Warranty expires? In 11 months maybe?

1 yr. warranty is the default base warranty but when choose 3 year depot 9x5 Next Business Day service, the latter becomes your primary base warranty.

To avoid yourself from hassle you could've chosen 4 year warranty in the first place if you wanted extended period of service.

what is the difference between 3 yr depot and base warranties?

also my concern is that the premium for the default/base is included in price and if I understand it correctly, I am paying twice for the first year of warranty.

Nothing.

"Base" warranty==Original warranty that you buy with your machine at the time of purchase.

yeah, thats what I thought, so I am paying two times for the first year warranty.

Are you saying you bought your machine initially with 1 yr. warranty and then went ahead and bought 3 yrs. warranty afterwards, separately?

Upgrades are effective from the original date of hardware purchase, regardless of upgrade purchase date. For instance, if you purchased a machine on February 1, 2004, and then bought a four-year upgrade, your coverage will end on January 31, 2008.
