Thinking of getting a T61p, have things changed with Lenovo?

It's been a while since I've purchased a Thinkpad Notebook. I'm considering a T61p and I was wondering if service has stayed the same or changed for the better or worse under Lenovo. When IBM owned the Thinkpad service was based in Atlanta and getting a domestic person on the phone took a matter of seconds. Has this changed or is it still the same? There are so many choices in notebook PC's now I'd also like to know if the T series Thinkpad is still considered a premier product compared to the other choices available.

i called service this week for a copy of the recovery DVDs and got through to atlanta in about a minute.   things seem to be the same if not better than three years ago when i bought my T42p.

They are very explicit about the fact that the call center is in Atlanta (e.g. "You will now be connected to a customer service representative in Atlanta, Georgia ..."). I've called for service a few times in the past year and been treated very well. No problems.

same here - always get an english native speaker in Atlanta within a minute or so. I've probably called 15 times in the 7 years I've owned thinkpads.

Lenovo subcontracts to some pretty decent maintenance outfits regionally for onsite repair. I placed a call the other day and a Qualex rep showed up at my door. Turned out it was a guy I worked with in the field (for IBM) 20 years ago...good people.
