T60 hiss/noise with Ethernet transfers

#1 Post by nicoske » Mon Jul 23, 2007 6:57 am

Hello,

I just got my new T60 WS and very happy with it, except for the noise !
I was afraid of all the comments about GPU temperature and fan noise but this doesn't occurs on my laptop (hot but not too hot).

However there is a high pitch noise whenever I transfer files via Ethernet.
My model is 8744-HDG and the card is Intel PRO 1000 PL.

Someone has experienced this on T6x ?

My system is XP, i'll give a try under Ubuntu.

I'm not sure but I have the same problem with my T43p with Broadcom NetXtreme 10/100/1000Mbps.

The problem occurs when there is VERY HIGH TRAFFIC on the network card, for e.g., copying very large files to a file server.

The problem occurs in both XP and Linux.

If anyone find out the cause of hissy noise, or how to fix it, I wanna know it too.
