Did I Smash My Third Antenna?

#1 Post by wswartzendruber » Thu Jul 26, 2007 2:56 am

So I ordered an AR5418 (802.11n) along with a third antenna and installed them in my T60 1953-D6U. Wireless-G is working remarkably well on this system now, but when I connected to a Belkin 802.11n accesspoint, I got a perfect signal, but at only 54 Mbps. So what's wrong? Did I smash my third antenna wire when I put the display back together? Mind you, I wasn't able to verify that the station was really running at 802.11n. I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit.

Well i don't think Vista even has that option to show 300mbit/s which is what it will be eventually. It's not yet. When you connect N to N it might actually be faster but you i don't think it shows anything other than 54Mbps yet.

Do some speed tests to find out or use the OEM software for the card, that will probably tell you the speed it's running at. It's just like those 108Mbps cards, they will connect but unless you use the software that comes with it they wont show you that speed.

(someone correct me if i'm wrong)

It's connecting at only 54Mbs because IBM disabled the "Turbo" setting which is what gives you the 300mbs.

You need to go to the registry and change some settings that enable Turbo G to enable 300mbs N.
