For those of you who ordered a T61P (I'm looking at you Garry) - what are you going to be using it for. I'm interested in using it for 3d -- Maya/ photoshop but am wondering what those of you who ordered it think about the widescreen for this purpose.
Thanks

It'll be my mobile workstation. I'll sell my current desktop.

Yes, that's what I have been doing for the last 6 or 7 years: use my laptop as a desktop replacement. It has made my life so much easier! Sure, I have had to always go for a high-end laptop, but that is definitely worthwhile and roughly costs the same (if not less in fact) as having both a high-end desktop and a 'reasonable' laptop.
Anyway, in my case, I will be using my T61p (should arrive on Monday) for developing scientific modelling environments and using those environments. So, intensive computation and graphics.

thank you for you responses but my question is more aimed at what do/would you use a widescreen display for instead of a standard screen - pros cons (what is the resolution o nT61p, I hear complaints about it being too high?)

How can resolution be too high ? The problem is with XP, it doesnt scale fonts well methinks.
I used WUXGA on a 17" in linux, and it looks frikin awesome.
I use WUXGA for programming, writing, and general web browsing.
It is really helpful to have windows side by side.

1920x1200.
That is rather high. The best solution, is to use the DPI scalling in vista. XP did a horrible job at scaling to DPI, but Vista does a great job, so long as you tell it *not* to use XP style scaling. In fact, Vista will even scale applications like itunes etc that don't scale properly with pure font scaling [xp style].

I'm going to replace my current desktop and laptop combo too.
I'll use it for games, development, and plug it into my hifi through the mini dock. I can't wait
