I'd keep the T60 flexview unless you REALLY like widescreen.

I agree - go for the power of the T61p, if you were in love with IPS then I suspect you would never have asked the question (as it seems to be the most important factor for some) so your better with the core 2 duo for future proofing.

don't go for the power. you can always upgrade later. i don't think upgrading to flexview will be possible in the future.

True (except you cant upgrade to santa rosa or intel turbo memory) but you could also argue that you won't be able to get flexview again (or probably 4:3 by the time he buys his next machine) so it might be better to get used to the change now - thats what i'm doing, using my 4:3 X series still as my main machine but using a T60p wide sometimes to try and get used to widescreen.

Upgrade? The main selling points of the T61p are the Santa Rosa processors and chipset and the graphics card. You can't upgrade to those.

I think the processor difference will not make such a big impact. Your choice, really, is in the screen -- do you want a 4:3 FlexView IPS panel with UXGA, or a widescreen with 20% more pixels (but no FlexView). That's a choice you can only make yourself ...

You can always spend an extra $450 for an external IPS monitor.

... although the external monitors are a bit heavy to carry around! But, yes, you could always add on either a UXGA 1600x1200 IPS monitor or a WUXGA 1920x1200 monitor to use while you are at your desk.

I went with the T60P with UXGA IPS and replaced the process or with the T7600 Core 2 Duo and just ordered the HITACHI Travelstar 7K200

T60P with flexview, no doubt about it. The raw power argument is rubbish, you can upgrade everything except the gfx, where the FireGL is more than competent.

Not to mention, the flexview is *god-like*.

Don't forget that money is also a factor. The two units the OP is considering cost exactly the same, but after the upgrades, the T60p would be more expensive.

This is subjective. I am more impressed by the non-FlexView WUXGA than the FlexView UXGA. To me, the 15.4" WUXGA is perhaps the most ideal laptop display. It has plenty of real estate for multitasking, and texts and images are still big enough to be viewed comfortably. The real estate offered by UXGA is just a tad too small, whereas things look a bit too small on the 15.0" QXGA screen. FlexView is nice but non-FlexView is okay too.

Yeah the IPS panels are nice but i think some people do exaggerate their importance, i have used them (and still do on my Tablet) but I am just as happy with the other panels too, anyone who's image is that important to them is going to have a decent sized external monitor for when its required.

and you obviously are not really aware of all the technology aspects of the T61 if you think everything other than graphics can be upgraded

What tablet are you referring to which has an IPS display?

I'll double-check but I think all of them do.

Oh, snap...I think you're right. Just checked the TABOOK. They're all FFS, which I just learned is an improved form of IPS. Cool.

Sooooo, Lenovo can source IPS displays (high-DPI ones at that) for their tablets but not for their T-series? :?
