T60 fan finanlly Down...

#1 Post by ronan_zj » Mon Jul 30, 2007 12:07 pm

Eventually, 6 months, my T60 fan starts making noise[*cluck*cluck*cluck*] from the motor area when its runing. when I rotate laptop to different angle the noise changes as well. I just called IBM ezservice and got all San Francisco local service cernter, and I found out they are all out of business now.......
Should I get a fan from internet and replace by myself? does it void any warranty? which website I can go in order to get a good fan?

Are you reluctant to send out your machine to EasyServ (a.k.a Solectron)?

5 business days from the time it's received by depot, however it could take more or less time depending on parts availability, time of the year etc...

I just sent in my Thinkpad for what I suspect will be termed a "system board replacement". The Thinkpad went out (via DHL) to EZServ on Thursday (7/26) and is scheduled for delivery today 7/30).

Although we've all heard the horror stories of 2 month long repair trips...

Nope, IBM/Lenovo/EZServ covers all the shipping fees.

You'll receive pre-paid labels alongwith the box.

Thanks guys.
Wish they can slove all problems of my labtop:
1st problem: LCD has buzzy noise when I dim the screen. the noise come out from up right hand corner. this problem came on day one when I got the brand new laptop from Lenovo. LCD has been replaced before by local service center, but problem wasnt sloved.
2nd problem: Fan error with *cluck* noise from the Fan motor area........
I dont know if I abuse my laptop, usually I never turn off the laptop,so its 24 hours working during the break and weekend, and 16 hours in school day.

You'll be provided with a sheet to explain whatever problem(s), you're having.

What causes the noise? Is it like a random occurrence?

Also, I'd rather not start another thread, so I'll ask my question here.

I leave my computer on almost all the time, so when I get my thinkpad, should I turn it off when I go to bed or at certain times when I'm not using it? Additionally, if it's on and I put in my backpack to catch the bus or train, is that ok?
"I think, therefore I am."

noise from the fan sounds like some thing stuck in the Fan motor, noise is not loud but noticeable.
