I recieve my F2-5300CL4D-2GBSA and do some benchmarks with them.








From 2 x 1 GB DDR2-667 CL5 to 2 x 1 GB DDR2-667 CL4


It's useless to change any regular 2 GB DDR2-667 CL5 to 2GB DDR2-667 CL4. The speed up is too low. If you only have 1GB and only care about performances, you can sold your stick and buy this kit. But for most users, it's better to keep 1GB and buy a second stick of 2GB.

judging by your results, i'd say that you'd never notice a difference in speed had you not run a test.

Of course, you will never seen any difference ! Benchmark difference is very small. Even if you run the same test a few time result can change a bit from time to time and this change can be bigger then difference between CL4 and CL5.

I probably missed something, but was the only difference the new ram was CL4? I'm just asking because I just ordered the same 2x 1GB gskill not 15 minutes ago. I currently have a stick of 1GB and 512MB. I thought for $99 I could have 512MB more memory, go from CL5 to CL4, use synchronous dual-channel, and not have to worry about problems of it not playing nice with what's in there now. Though I may have been better off just swapping the 512MB stick with a 2GB one, I'm sure I won't hate myself for order this. I also just ordered the 160GB 7200.2 Seagate Momentus. I plan on taking this drive (7k100) and another spare drive and making me and my wife each a nice 2.5" external.

It would be better only to buy one 2GB stick to replace the 512MB. So for about the same price ($99), you have 1GB + 2GB. With this kit from G.Skill you got 2 GB for $99. Extra speed due to CL4 is very small (or even useless). But extra cost is not very important. I'am sure it's not the best buy (except for geeks).

Momentus 7200.2 160 Go is a very good drive. A far better buy !

That's what my left-brain told me, but I let my right brain win out this this time. I know I could probably get more value out of adding a 2GB stick, but I don't even use (most of the time) the 1.5GB I have now. So I thought by going to 2GB, plus just knowing in my head it's CL4 and synchronous dual-channel, I could at least feel warm and fuzzy inside. Had it been more than $99, I probably would have choose the 2GB instead of this on a geek impulse

I'm looking forward to that Momentus though, from the comparisons I've seen it's a bit better all around... bigger, faster, less power...

edit: I just thought of my excuse if I'm not excited with the Gskill, they'll probably work in my wife's Macbook since she has 2x 512 right now. I wonder if I can convince her your supposed to give ddr2 ram for the three-year anniversary
