Hello, one of my friends want to buy a brand new Thinkpad T61.

He has 2 models in mind : a T61 646067F at 2300$ and the T61P 64575KF at 3100$+.

There a hugh difference in price, but except the CPU speed I can't find anything else...

Can someone explain to me what is the difference between theses two.

Also, what is the difference between a T61 and a T61P.

Thanks you in advance :)

You're right... it makes no sense. The more expensive one has:

- faster CPU
- same RAM but in one rather than two slots

But the other model has

- wireless a/b/g/n card (the more expensive model has n disabled)
- standard three year onsite warranty rather than a depot warranty in the more expensive model

There are probably a bunhc of otehr features not shown on the list, like HDD speed, turbo memory etc.

Processor 7700 vs 7500 - $330 US
Memory 2 GB 2 Dimm vs. 2GB 1 Dimm - $140 US
3yr. On Site Warranty vs. Depot Warranty - ~$100 US (not really sure if warranty is different between two units, both have a sub note of 13 which indicates depot warranty)

Above accounts for a $570 US (~$600 CDN) of the difference in price.

yeah i was about to point out that the more expensive machine has the onsite warranty vs carry in for the other and that's expensive. And the CPU differences even tho minor, the cost isn't.

So, between the T60P : http://www-131.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... logId=-124

vs the T61 at 2300$

What would you choose... the extra 300$ is worth it or not ?

And bottom line, is the T61 is really a T61P or not ?

I think somebody at Lenovo who created the data-sheets possibly made a mistake with "cut and paste" (again).
According to the support site, disregarding the warranty, there are some more notable diffences, (assuming the support site is correct, see below).

646067F
Original description: T7500(2.2GHz), 2GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm HD, 15.4in 1920x1200 LCD, 128MB nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion, WinVista Ultimate

64575KF
Original description: T7700(2.4GHz), 2GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm HD, 15.4in 1920x1200 LCD, 256MB nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn(n-disabled), Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 9c Li-Ion, WinVista Ultimate

To make matters even more confusing, the tabook for the USA 646067U, which should be the same as the 646067F, says it has a 256MB nVIDIA. :? I couldn't find the model in EMEA in order to make a double check. eh sorry but basically the only certain difference I can add is the battery.

EDIT: should have thought earlier to look, the support site says the 646067U has 128MB nVIDIA. My guess is that the 646067* has 128MB and is a T61 and not a T61p.
