A few concerns about my new T61...any ideas?

I just got a T61 a few weeks ago and noticed 4 things that sort of bother me. Any one have any suggestions on how to fix these?

1) Sound not always working -- I've noticed a few times that the sound doesn't work. The pattern I notice is that it works (I'll be playing a song or something) and then a few hours later when I try to play something else, the sound just isn't there. Yes, I've checked all the volume settings everywhere and they're all on high volume. Restarting the computer solves this problem. Also, yesterday the sound just came back without having to restart my computer. It's really weird.

2) Not able to open folder. I tried opening any folder from my Desktop and it wouldn't open. It looked as if the window popped up and then disappeared in a matter of a second. Restarting solved this problem.

3) Rattling noise from right side, rare and can't seem to find a pattern. Honestly, it sounds a bit like a tiny ball that just rattles once or twice and then it stops. I can't seem to find a pattern. Could this be a problem?

4) On my screen, (usually when I come back from Sleep mode), the top 1/6th of the screen is messed up -- it's black and has some pixels, all chaotically placed. A second or two later, after the screen refreshes, everything is OK.

Thanks!!

Did you already update all the drivers (video, sound, power manager etc.)? If not, that should be your first course of action to see if that fixes the glitches.

Not sure about the rattle, though. It might be the hard drive... a sound like a marble rolling has been reported by some and i apparently normal for certain types of HDD.

1) well this might seem kinda "DOH" but did you accidentally press the volume button by the keyboard? With that pressed the volume in Windows will still show max but just no sound will come out.

2) No idea

3) You probably have the drives that make that rattling noise. Weird i know but some of them actually have the heads fall or something and you can hear them. It's a design factor, not a problem.

4) Weird, no idea. :)

How exactly do I update the drivers? Is this under ThinkVantage System Update?

Thanks!

In the thinkvantage folder in the startmenu there is an app called system update. run it and it should do all updates for you.

do this and than look what probs are still there...

hope it helps....

it sounds like most of these would be OS problems / bugs, not an issue with the thinkpad itself. except maybe the rattling, but that could be the harddrive.
