SQL Server as part of the factory image?

#1 Post by adamaronson » Wed Aug 01, 2007 8:30 am

Hi all,

Loving my T61 15" WS -- an upgrade from months of problems with T60s and Adv Mini Docks -- but that is a whole other story. I'm ridiculously happy now.

Perusing my Add/Remove Programs I see SQL Server 2005 installed as a part of the factory image. Anyone know why it is there and if it is safe to remove it?

I saw that Business Contact Manager from Outlook was using it -- uninstalled that 'cause we use our own home-brewed CRM -- yet the uninstaller didn't remove SQL Server. I'm thinking something else is using it.

Thoughts...?

Thanks,

Your right, newer TPs come with Office 2007 and BCM Trial versions which will install SQL-Server along with it.

If you uninstall BCM it will not automatically uninstall your SQL-Server instance. This have to be done manually with the SQL-Server uninstall from add/remove programs.

Yeah.... SQL server is annoying.... I dont think the SQL server is a and ms office is part of the image.... when i got my T61.... i was kinda [censored] off with all the junk installed.... so I just restored it back to factory settings.... while doing it.... it gives u the option of doing a selective restore. u can basically uncheck all the crap and leave what u really need.
