Changing T61p OS language

#1 Post by SetTainte » Thu Aug 02, 2007 2:43 am

I'm about to order T61p (NH05GGE).
I can customize for example the keyboard to FI/SWE one for some extra euros.

But how can I change the language of the OS?
It's Vista Ultimate.

At least in FuSi you can change the OS language from user account control if you have Vista Ultimate :!:

I don't speak such a good German that I'd like it to be the OS language :-p

Any other comment based on the laptop I'm about to order...

When I started up my T61P I think one of the first questions asked was location & language

Afaik you can download up to 26 lanuage packs if you have a vista license from the MS website which will let you change the language.

Ah yes, I've hidden those updates, having a quick look Finnish & Swedish are both listed for downloading if you need to.

I expect you could boot the machine up in English then go to windows update and get your language of choice.

You need to have Vista Ultimate for the language pack downloads.

How rinky-dink is that? My order includes Vista ultimate and just English....but really.

Vista Business users might well need an alternative language. What would it have cost Microsoft to enable that? I'm not usually a Microsoft flamer, but that seems lame to me.

Actually. An english Win XP could also be MUI´ed.

MUI stands for Multilingual User Interface

Ok, now I'm about to pick up my new T61p tomorrow!

It is going to German UI at the beginning. Now I do speak some German but I have no clue what - and where - to do to change the language.

Would somebody please be so nice and give me some link to some page or just tell me what to do...

I believe you can choose English during the installation, otherwise:

Systemsteuerung / Regions & Sprachoptionen / Tastaturen und Sprache
control panel / Regions and Language options / Keyboard and Language

zur Auswahl steht:
choices are:

a) Sprache - installieren
install - language
b) Sprache auswählen (a german machine offers English or German)
choose language

As another member stated you can download other languages as updates.
T61p 6460-67G; 15,4 WSXGA+ W7P x64, no hairdryer.
T43p 2668-G2G, 14,1 SXGA+, XP Pro, internal hairdryer
T23 2647-9LG, 14,1 SXGA+, XP Pro, no hairdryer

From reading the following, it appears you can change language packs *IF* you have Vista Ultimate.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925471/en-us

So I am going to assume, you cannot change the language of Vista unless you have the Ultimate version.
