Access Connections issue (yes, another one)

System is a T61 6465-57U. OS is Windows XP installed from an OEM CD. (Downgraded from Vista.)

I installed a couple drivers (Intel Matrix Storage and the wired network driver,) then installed System Update, and let 'er rip. It installed some of the stuff, but missed the wireless card.

I installed the wireless driver, and Access Connections didn't give me the option to find networks after rebooting. Fn-F5 gives the message about there being no supported wireless adapters before giving the choices between profiles.

Now here's the... weird part. If I go to create a new profile, the 3945ABG is there. I can go to the next page... if I try to find a network, it'll say the wireless radio is powered off (and saying yes won't "turn it on,") even when it's not only working, but can connect to a network at will. The Wireless mode and Wireless security type menus have no available options, and I can't get past that page.

Ideas for where to start?

You could try going into device manager/network adapters and uninstalling the wifi adapter drivers thrn reboot. XP should pick it up and reinstall.

It may be a good idea to reinstall Access Connections as well.

Did the card work under Vista?

Its also possible that you card is broken of course.

Let's just say I didn't get far enough with Vista to try connecting to the wireless network.

The card works fine on XP, it's just Access Connections doesn't see it.

I did try removing Access Connections and reinstalling, to no effect.

There are some long threads about this earlier. There is an issue about the order in which the power drivers and hot key driver is installed.

The readme files on the Access connections and the power manager I think explain what order things need to go in.

What I did was uninstall the power driver, power manager, access connections and the hot key driver. Then install the power driver, power manager, hot key driver with a reboot after each. Then install access connections last.

What I have seen is that if there is an update to the power driver of manager, when it is install this whole process has to be repeated.

This has to do with the Intel WiFi card becuase its power is managed to preserve battery. Something about the in stall order of these drivers impacts whether that card works right or not.

Now THAT crap is annoying. Guess I'm glad the X61ts have the Atheros card, huh...

And, guess I'll have to set this machine up this way.

I had searched, but didn't find anything obvious quickly.

This is going to sound so obvious, please don't laugh. I don't have a T61 but the T60p's have a button on the front of the chassis that turns the wireless on and off. I'm assuming that is turned on. If not, it might be the cause of the problem.

It is turned on, that was one of the first things I checked.

FWIW, any way to disable that switch? Because I forsee it being an issue - on the X61t I got to use for a few days, it was an issue.

I have the same problem with my T61. The windows connection tool connects wireless networks just fine but the thinkvantage connection manager tells me that there are no supported wireless cards installed. Has anyone found a fix for this?

Having the same issue, system came with Vista but installed XP. Enhanced Service Support said to: Install Power Manager Driver (don't reboot), install Hotkey software (don't reboot), then uninstall wireless and reboot. I tried this and it has not worked.

Any other tips?

I also just got off the phone with Lenovo. They told me to boot into safe mode and uninsltall hot key manager, power manager, the wireless cand and access connection. Once that is done reboot and reinstall in the same order. If that does not work reimage the drive....

I did all those steps with the same results "no supported wirless adapters installed"
