Anyone Know Lenovo Insider?

I'm just finishing my second excruciating transition of the year to a new T60. My aging eyes just couldn't handle the 1680x1050 screen on my first one, so now I'm back on a 1400x1050 and very happy with it.

However, it reminded me again of an unbelievably, well, foolish bit of the factory setup of these boxes: they come with Rescue and Recovery set to automatically back up their data to ... right, their own hard drives. Any user who doesn't know they have to disable this will find themselves mysteriously running out of disk space in no time flat as RnR merrily consumes all the available space, filling it with hidden backup files.

Lenovo must be spending a lot of money on needless support calls from customers wondering where all that space went. If anyone on this board knows a decision maker at the company, it would be a charitable act to gently point out that, umm, THIS IS STUPID. Or words to that effect....

Have you actually looked at how RnR works over time?

Perhaps Lenovo know something about RnR, and users in general, that you don't know.

Hi Bill,

On my two T60s, RnR has worked by backing everything up to hidden files on the hard drive, rapidly consuming all available space on the first one. At that point I realized what the thing was doing and with the help of some members of this forum corrected the situation.

I'm sure RnR can be configured to work fine and have, in fact, set it up to do so. But I think Lenovo must get a lot of support calls from customers who wonder where all their drive capacity has gone.

Can you give me some suggestions as to how to use RnR?

Thanks!
