Hi guys....
Has anybody here installed WIN server 2003 on a T-61? Will I be able to find drivers for it? I might have to install Server 2003 on it because of work.... how does the OS react to being on a laptop? What happens if u close the lid while running? does it have a Laptop profile?
Thanks guys... :)

i've run server 2003 standard on my T42p for 2.5 years and plan to install it on my upcoming T61p.   one caveat; i can't guarantee compatibility with 2003 and any other thinkpad beside the T42p, however, i don't foresee any major issues.   my rationale is that if i can get a T42p to fully work with drivers from 2004/2005 then surely newer T61/p drivers should (in theory) be compatible.

with that said, drivers will be your biggest hangup.   it took me about a week of searching and testing before i found a compatible driver for the IBM a/b/g wifi card.   everything else worked from the c:\ibmtools\drivers directory from the XP pro preload.   i can confirm that the obscure drivers (on-screen display, fingerprint reader, infrared, etc.) all work fine in 2003 on my T42p.

if you plan to use your T61 as a workstation then follow this guide for proper setup: http://www.msfn.org/win2k3/

power management does have a laptop/portable scheme.   standby and hibernate both work normally.

good luck.   feel free to ask any specific questions if you get hung up.

I run XP, Win 2003 and Ubuntu 7.10 on my T60 without any problems. For drivers on Windows 2003 just use the XP drivers.
Good luck,
