P.S. Mods / Admins, please gladly move it to another location if you feel it's off topic.

I have a HP 8510p and 8510w kicking around at the moment. In fairness, they are T7300-powered (Merom) and my T61p is T9300-powered (Penryn)... but I am really bothered by the noise the fan makes on the HPs. On both HP units (all have latest BIOS), the fans are running constantly and at ridiculous volume. Even with tpfancontrol bumping the T61p fan to its maximum 4500rpm using open loop mode, an 8510p sitting idle at the desktop can be heard over the T61p... I can't imagine a Merom-powered T61p being as loud as the HPs...

The HPs and Lenovo are all configured with WSXGA+ LCDs. The Lenovo's screen is far nicer to my eyes--white is actually white, text is clearer, colours seem more accurate.

Obviously the keyboard is better on the Thinkpad... the HP touchpad is nicer, but their TrackPoint copy is unusable.

All this said, the HP units are beautifully built and a joy to work on. While I can elicit flex, creaks, and groans from my T61p, the HPs still feel new--and they're actually a bit older and have WAY more hours on them.
