Atheros: Enabling 802.11n (Pic)

#1 Post by wswartzendruber » Tue Aug 07, 2007 10:29 am

So I installed an AR5008/AR5418 WLAN card in my T60. I connected to an 802.11n access point and it said 54 Mbps. Someone mentioned something about editing the registry.

Is there a procedure for enabling 802.11n with this card, or did I install that and a third antenna in my T60 for nothing?

I have Windows Vista.

Are you using the software for the card or Vista's default? I don't think Windows Vista will show anything other than 54Mbps (someone slap me in the head then correct me if i'm wrong). Since wireless N isn't finalized yet there isn't any official specs for them to list. It should be 300Mbps but i don't think it will show that yet.

Sorta has something to do with it (probably why it still says 54Mbps)

I would just do some speed tests to see.

Hardware-wise, aren't the MacBook AR5BXB72 802.11n cards the same as the Lenovo 42T0825 AR5BXB72's except for the f/w?

I'm surprised someone hasn't started flashing them on the cheap.

try this to show 300mbps: set your router to be wpa2-psk (AES) and make sure that either access connections or windows is set at wpa2-psk (aes)

i noticed that i could only connect at 54mbps when the security settings in windows was set at wpa2-psk (TKIP), but when i changed it to (AES), it would connect at 300mbps.

so let me know if this works out for you.

also, the 42t0825 works perfectly in my macbook core duo.

Please see what DAH wrote in the following thread to understand some of the limitations of 'N' that are not well known (well at least it was news to me).

yup, here's mine - Image

after reading the other thread linked by gob, it seems that the wireless settings need to be set at aes in order to rach 300mbps.

MOD EDIT: Picture warning added.
