Hi Lundh,
I know you made some general comments on the display earlier but can you elaborate further? How are the brightness and viewing angles (vertical and horizontal)? What do you think of the colors? Have you calibrated it? Do you happen to know the manufacturer of your panel? I am assuming Samsung. If you don't know, you can use this neat little program to find out (it's free and unobtrusive):
PC Wizard 2007

Can you also comment on the noise level of your T61p? Can you hear the fan run when you are idling or running light applications? What happens when you stress the machine - does the system get really loud?

as far as stessing the machine goes, the FAN still doesn't get loud. I played with one for a while so that's how i know. This was encoding divx to dvd so. While you can hear the fan it doesn't get say T43ish or even T60ish load.

Have not been able to calibrate it unfortunally. I dont have the equipment myself bu tI will try to lend it as soon as I get the chance. The colours are ok without but since I do some graphics work for websites I would like to get an even better reference.
The horizontal viewing angle is not that good, the colors change quite fast as soon as you move your head to the side. The vertical viewing angle is on the other hand very good. I would say the best I have seen on a laptop. I have mostly used Macs so if you have any experience with them, think much better then them.
There is light leakage at the entire bottom of the display but I can't really notice it unless I watch a 2.35:1 move or something similar. I also have a darker area at the lower right corner, about 3mm wide. Again, nothing noticable during everyday use.
All in all I am really satasfied with the display. Sure, there is some deficencies, but every laptop display has its problems and this one is not worse then the any other.
Did not have time to check the manufacurer but as far as I know, Samsung is the only one delivering WUXGA 15,4" displays.

Sure, I can hear the fan, but it's really not not something that bothers me. It is still very silent and I it doesn't get a lot louder even during some load. Most importantly, it keeps the chassi cool, not much warmer then room temperature.
The quality of the computer is there. The plastic casing creak at some places but the chassi is sturdy and when you start using it, you start apriciate where they spent the money. It's not like the MacBook Pro that has a screen casning that flexes so you get keyboard markings on the display when it's closed. But then again, the initial quality feel is better on the MBP.
Hope I answered some of your questions.

Really? That's strange. Normally, modern TN panels (which I'm sure this one is) have good horizontal viewing angles, but terrible vertical angles (when colors get dark and inverted from below, washed out from above).

lundh,
Thanks so much for your thorough response. That was very helpful.
What do you think about the high resolution - WUXGA? I know things can get pretty small with such a high res - especially on a 15.4 screen. What are your thoughts? Do you adjust the dpi settings to make fonts larger?
Thanks.

That's true offcourse, but compared to other panels I'd say that my conclusion is correct. My reference was not a perfect picture but rather other laptop panels.
The image does not invert when looking at it from below, but it does get darker and the image become lighter when looking at it from above. What I meant was that you can move your head more up and down and still get acceptable colours.
On the other hand does the colous change in tone faster then normal when I move my head to the sides.
casper7777: I personally love the high resolution. I always have multiple windows open at the same time os I make full use of every pixel. That said, If I want to read somenting more relaxed then I tend to Increase the font size.
