Looks good. Looks just like the T60. Much more "T Series" than the widescreen, which is aweful. Might get it now.

The 9 cell will stick out regardless of which model it is in. The 6 cell will fit flush with the back in either model.

The smallest battery is flush, the other(s) stick out.
T61 14" widescreen: 4-cell flush, 6-cell and 7-cell sticks out
T61 14" 4:3 and T61 15" widescreen: 6-cell flush, 9-cell sticks out

the screen is still off to the right more than normal. I say normal because even this T42 i am using now has the screen sorta off-centered but then again i think even the keyboard is off centered.
In the ones above it still looks like the screen is more to the right than the normal 4:3 T series.

NO!
6 cell on 14" Widescreen T61 sticks out
6 cell on 14" 4:3 T61 is flush
9 cell on 14" Widescreen doesn't exist
9 cell on 14" 4:3 sticks out.

What do you mean by the screen and keyboard being off-centered?

This means that the screen is shifted a couple (2 or 3 )millimeters to the right and not 100% centered in the case....
The Keyboard is centered though (I messarued...) .
I wonder if the 4:3 inch version is thicker as well... doesn't show on the pictures...
:. how to choose 14.1" standart screen?

T series matrix
Compare series details does not reflect changes yet.
However,
ThinkPad T61 14-inch does include 14.1" standart screen description
The most secure, strongest, coolest and quietest T Series notebook and comes in a highly mobile 14.1-inch standard or widescreen form factor.
what to look for in the model description, to pick a 14.1" standart screen?

Once you click on the "t-series" button the will have their own column... or if you are looking for the p-series you'll have to follow it one more option down...
:. standart 14.1" screen

ThinkPad T61p Mobile Workstation
-14.1 SXGA+ TFT - that's only one in the category.
ThinkPad T61 14-inch have 3 options:
-14.1 WXGA TFT
-14.1 XGA TFT
-14.1 SXGA+ TFT
and i did not see any notes of which one is which, wide vs standart.

Well the WXGA (the W stands for Wide) are the Widescreen versions... all the other once (SXGA+ = 1400 X 1050 & XGA = 1024 x 768) are "normal" 4:3 Screen Versions.

Nice

As long as doesn't translate to thickness and weight...

doesnt seem like a big deal to me.

Seems like T61 14" 4:3 does not have firewire port, audio in/out.
where did those ports go?

Besides:
I don't get that with the missing FireWire on the T61 14" 4:3. (also valid for the T4x)
My good old X31 does offer FireWire on an even smaller form-factor.
On the X31 there is even an Audio IN.
I just don't get it.

Both audioports are on the left side
Well, who needs firewire? Don't think the die-hard Digital Video users are using their laptop for it..?
And for me it's a + that it's not on the 4:3: no memories to Apple
