I just got my T60 2 weeks ago
This is my first laptop so please dont mind me being stupid.

How do you clean the LCD and the keyboard?
a lot of dust have gathered up already.

keyboard i use windex. LCD i use phillips LCD cleaner. don't use windex on the LCD thou. also once every 6 moths i use compressed air to clean the fan. you should search as well. there is some posts on this subject.

I like a short shpritz of Oreck "Cloud Free" Glass & Mirror Cleaner. According to the label, it's:

Nonammonicated, professional strength
No streaking, hazing, or smearing
Leaves no residue or film
Works in any temperature
Safe on plexiglas, lexan, lucite and other synthetics

Good stuff, IMO.

People tend to get a little obsessed with special cleaning products IMO. It's just a hunk of plastic so simply clean the outer casing and keyboard with a damp sponge soaked in mild detergent solution.

I also make a point of never touching my screen with my fingers so all I ever have to do is get the dust off with a quick swish of a microfiber cloth. When there is the odd finger smudge I breath on the screen to moisten it and wipe with a microfiber cloth.

Have done this with all my thinkpads and never had any problems or scratches. I once tried an "LCD monitor cleaner". Worst thing I ever did. Spent the next week trying to get the smears off the screen.

the phillips cleaner is anti-static so once i clean it i don't have to worrie so much about the dust. but of course you can just use H20 and it will do the job as well...

Same as pipsqueak - I do not touch the screen and forbid anyone else to do so.

Accordingly: Cotton is cloth and is soft. I take an old towel, wet the centre with ordinary water and wring it out. Then I carefully wipe the screen and then the keyboard and then the outer case. Then I use the dry portion of the towel to dry the screen (actually do this right after washing it), dry the keyboard and then dry the outer case. My T41 is near 4 years old and is nice and clean.

I got mine at CVS drugstore but you don't have to get the phillips cleaner. just go to frys or best buys or any other computer store and ask them for LCD cleaners. most of them should be antistatic.

I was recently squeezing a lime wedge into my Pepsi, and my T61 was in the "blast zone".

Well, a drop of juice landed on the cover, and when I used some alcohol to clean it off, I still see a mark from it. I even tried water, then soap and water, but it's still there. Most would have to squint to see, but I still notice it.

Any fix for that? (I'm worrying about the citric acid)

After having my T60 worked on, I spent some time getting the tech's fingerprints and residue (heat sink compound and other crud from his anti-static work mat) off the outside. It didn't come completely clean and uniform no matter what I did in cleaning it, so I gave it a nice rubdown with some ArmorAll. I really like the effect; rather than a dull matte finish, the lid now has a very subdued sheen to it. The left over crud from the repair work is virtually invisible now.

Yes, I think so.

IIRC, ArmorAll has a silicone component (the same used in CD scratch repair fluid/paste), so those marks still exist, just covered now.

I'd just like to know if the acid from the juice actually damaged the finish, or if it's just on there and removable by other means.

Beware: Fruit + ThinkPads don't mix.

Mainly because it's pretty cheap and easy to come by... for the LCD just get a microfiber cloth and a little pump spray solution for camera lenses. Works like a charm and is teh cheap!
