After lot of thinking I am all set to press the purchase button. But I did like to have your opinion on the system as well. This is the configuration I am looking at

And one last question. Do you think lenovo care maintanence is important. What I see from the videos and other online sites is that if pour water by mistake it is supposed to drain by itself. So waht is the use of this coverage?? Does it cover anything important. Has anyone ever bought it??

The machine is very nice, you're the sole judge in buying process, all I can further comment is if it fits your preference and needs then you should definitely buy it.

Lenovo Care Maintenance is for lenovo 3000 products. Thinkplus Protection Services is for ThinkPads. Those tests you see online are carried out on test machines and just because lenovo happened to get one result and were able to pull this off safely does not mean that you can expect the same. For your information, liquid spills damaging the motherboard is not covered under warranty, but under Thinkplus Protection service it will be covered including other things like operational or structural failures resulting under normal operating conditions, unintentional drops and bumps, an electrical surge that damages the Product's circuitry, or the failure of the integrated LCD screen.

Thinkpad protection is like insurance for your computer with no deductible (though obviously it doesn't cover theft). It covers accidental damage (spills, drops, someone sitting on it, for example) as well as basic hardware failures.

The regular warranty will cover any hardware, including the screen, that fails during normal operation.

If you're careful then the regular warranty should be fine. If you travel a lot then it might be worth getting the protection, although for the price it might be cheaper to get a rider on your regular household/renters insurance.

As for the drain holes... they're fine for a few ounces of liquid. A full glass will overwhelm the keyboard drain tray and then there's about a 50/50 chance that you mobo will fry.
