Can anyone tell me if T61 gets heated in the bottom or on the palm area after prolonged use?? I checked an inspiron 1520 and it would almost fry the lap if I use for more than 4 hours. Just wondering how good/bad is it for T61.
Thanks

T61 has more heat vents located on the bottom so if you would put it on your lap then you're certainly going to feel the warmth. Nevertheless, it would never get to a degree of hotness on the bottom and palmrest and it would stand and deliver while staying cool and calm.

When I first powered on my T61, all was well until a few minutes into use. Then an amazing amount of heat came from the main CPU heatsink vent, and a burning odor filled the air.
Needless to say I freaked out.
As I went to immediately hold the power button down, the heat stopped, and the odor dissipated. I've used it since without issue, but that first time scared the s**t out of me.
I assumed it was some excess thermal paste or oils on the heatsink burning off due to the heat. Am I alone in this? Am I right in my assumption?

Yes. Same principle when you accidentally spill some oil on the engine of your car when you are filling or changing your oil. There will be some residue on the internal components that will occur during packing and shipping.
