How can i tell the non Intel card is Atheros ?

well the subject saying it.

the card they have now there is : ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN Mini-PCIe US/EMEA/LA/ANZ [subtract $5.00]

is that Atheros ? and what the PCIe means ? is that PCI Express in the slot ? or it's internal but just PCIe ?

Yes that's Atheros.

you can boot up Knoppix LiveCD and in the console type in

Code: Select all

lspci
that will give you info about many devices
if you want particular Atheros, type in

Code: Select all

lspci | grep -i atheros

For the completeness of your post. The card is branded by lenovo for it's Thinkpads but the manufacturer and chipset is from Atheros. Mini-PCIe is the slot where it's installed internally. For more information on Mini-PCIe please see this.
