Set up/configuring new T60.

#1 Post by Magic Wonder425 » Sun Aug 12, 2007 9:34 pm

Alright, so my T60 should be arriving tomorrow (yay!) and I was wondering if I should change/adjust any defaults that are already set up. For example, are there certain processes running from the start that I should turn off? Should I change something in the BIOS to make it run better or stay cooler?

First thing I planned to do was install spyware programs, antivirus, a firewall, and then download XP service pack 2 from their website.

This is going to be my first laptop, so any feedback would be great.

Unlike most ready2go putez, I like my T60p's initial setup... only a few things I suggest:

- Remove Digital Line Detect from the startup menu if you don't plan on using a digital phone line. Remove Bluetooth if you don't use it.

- Install PageDfrg by SysInternals (iz free)

- Blue Button -> Wireless ... disable wireless devices you don't use.

- Create Recovery CDs ... also consider making an UBCD4Win (UBCD4Win.com)

...If u got Vista then I don't know...

Thanks, but what's the PageDfrg and the UBCD4Win?

I just went into my task manager, are there suppose to be so many processes running? When I first turned it on, there 84 to begin with.

All those processes is normal...

PageDefrag: "PageDefrag uses advanced techniques to provide you what commercial defragmenters cannot: the ability for you to see how fragmented your paging files and Registry hives are, and to defragment them. In addition, it defragments event log files and Windows 2000/XP hibernation files (where system memory is saved when you hibernate a laptop)."

UBCD4Win is a diagnostics CD. It was very helpful when I dropped my T60p and permanently damaged my hard drive. I was able to boot into UBCD4Win and copy all the uncorrupted files to an external USB hard drive.
