i configured two machines. i noticed the only difference is the video card between the machines.

NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M (128MB) Vs NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (128MB).

price between the machines came out $129.
is that the ONLY difference between P to a none P machine, the video card ?
is that video card woth the difference ?

this is the configuration :

I would like to know this too and why everybody is ordering with t7500 processor instead of t7300 ? Is that 0.2 Ghz worth that $110 bucks?

well for me this CPU is the "Sweet spot" seems i get the most on this one for the money. there is always one like that when i order a new PC. one before the big jump in $$
to tell you if $110 worth 0.2Ghz that's hard to tell. probably not :D

I believe yes.

Depends merely on your usuage and requirement(s), if you do intensive graphics work (C.A.D and games) then yes, however if you're more concerned about battery life then no. The better/higher/advanced the gpu, the more the power consumption will be, i.e. the more the battery life will suffer.

thanks for your reply !

i remember the T4x the P models where into CAD but not really into games. the drivers wherent optimized for them.
is this the case here as well ? or the T61P video is just better card overall ?

T61(p) come with 3 graphic chips :
- X3100 : poor performances, shared memory, silence and battery life
- Quadro NVS 140m : good performances, blanced between performances and battery life (same for heat)
- Quadro FX 570m : excellent performances (about 2 times 140m), heat and less battery life

Quadro (FireGL) can run games the way as GeForce (Radeon). It's the same chip but *pro* GPU have a specific OpenGL driver.

I don't know about differences for noise and heat. Not a lot of people have both to compare !

well i guess i will have to try it myself then.... it was only $80 more for me to go with the P. and get twice the perfomance of the 140 i thought it was worth it.

i remember the days that to get a P model you had to put sometimes $1000 more....

The Quadro 570mis well worth the extra 130 USD, Battery live will not be noticeable less compared to the 140 NVS (as long as you don't play games on battery power) but you will gain more then twice the power for games and 3d Applications...

I can't wait to get my baby...

if it makes u feel better, the 570M got a higher 3dmark06 benchmark score than the Macbook Pro's video card.

I will be waiting for pics on the new T61p. To me the 14.1" 4:3 is the sweet form.

I have not seen customers having any complains with 570m gpu, the test models I saw remained cool and calm while standing and delivering the performance. Your battery would last around 2:50 to 3:15 mins. or max. 3:30 mins on variable optimized settings. Based on that you can take a hunch how things would be on torture settings.

Basically it's a wireless antenna that allows you to connect with USB devices wirelessly. See this for more info.

Only T61/p 15.4 W comes with UWB.

well this is what i wanted to hear. sounds like the P is the way to go with those prices.
the battery life you mention is about what i'm getting now on my T43 and 6 Cells and i'm ok with that. i'm not using it much on battery anyhow except flights , but that is pretty rare.

UWB well if thats only 15" option , then all i can say is oh well :)

thanks !

128 MB is enough for Window Vista Aero Glass interface. It's also quiet enough for most games (except very high end graphic engine in more then 1024x768).
