What is the purpose of your buying this notebook? Users install softwares what they need that helps in easing their business/work/projects/games/fun stuff and what not requirements etc.....

So, I believe this a question you should be asking yourself.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

I'm thinking about buying the same model and posted on this board asking if anyone tried the specific model. I currently have a T43p that is very noisy and warm. When you get the T61p and used it for some days i would be very interested in hearing if it's very noisy and warm since the spec. is pretty high.

Regarding recommended software it's easier to recommend something if you told us what kind of applications you are looking for and what kind of application you don't need. Also the purpose of buying this computer would be helpful to know when trying to recommend some software. There are so many applications to choose from in so many categories.

sorry for not providing all relevant information, I realized this as soon as I went to bed... I will be running Windows Vista business X64 as an OS. In terms of software I will be using the computer for - 3D CAD such as Autodesk Maya as well as multimedia applications such as Photoshop adobe premiere etc. I'm interested in general software anyone would recommend but especially some freeware gems people have stumbled across

NOD32 2.7 does not have firewall.

A beta version of NOD32 3.0 has firewall but that is sill going through more developments.

Have a look at here what firewall is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firewall_(networking)

IMON is Internet Monitoring. Basicly that just scans your internet traffic for viruses.

Some programs:
[*]qliner Hotkeys: http://www.qliner.com/hotkeys/
[*]KeePass Password Safe: http://keepass.info/
[*]Treepad: http://www.treepad.com/
[*]Crap Cleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/
[*]Startup Delayer: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/startdelay.html
[*]Comodo: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
[*]NOD32: http://www.eset.com/

edit: what the f*ck is wrong? BBCode is ON and it still doesn't work :-p

I second the opera browser...simply amazing! I use AVG for my antivirus cause it seems work pretty well. SyncToy is a simple document sync program from microsoft, and I recommend alcohol 120% for installing cd images without having to burn them first.

I'd recommend "Windows firewall control" a small bolt on to the standard vista firewall that allows you to selectively block outgoing traffic. I like it as it's very low overhead on the PC.

I've been using synctoy but it's getting really annoying as it can't handle empty folders, gets to be a real pain after a while.
