14 inch wide T61, 4 in 1 card reader/Express Card slot?
Is the 4 in 1 card read availible on the T61 14 inch widescreen model actually an Express Card 4 in 1 reader, so you can just pull out the reader and use the Express Card slot if you wanted?
This only applies to the 14 inch models.

No it is not.

Looking like anyone who does not get the card reader ripped themselves off from a free card reader. Who actually has a 14 inch wide T61 with the card reader?

Doesn't anyone use the Search function of these forums anymore?ocellaris wrote:Looking like anyone who does not get the card reader ripped themselves off from a free card reader. Who actually has a 14 inch wide T61 with the card reader?
This has been talked about in other threads, notably this one. If you check my last post in that thread, there is a link to a picture of what I believe to be the T61 14" WS model with 4-in-1. You can clearly see that although there is a double-height space there where normally there would be two card slots (1 ExpressCard, 1 CardBus), there is only 1 eject button (for 1 card, a CardBus card), and whatever that thing is (the size of the opening seems to be right for SD), it is molded into the casing of the ThinkPad, so it is not removable. Not to mention that it is sitting in the bottom slot where the CardBus space normally is; the CardBus got moved to the top, so unless this picture isn't what I think it is, whatever is behind the plastic is quite different from the normal layout.
My guess is that the built-in 4-in-1 reader uses the ExpressCard bus, but it is built-in and non-removable.

I searched and found some conflicting reports between here and other forums (someone on another forum claimed that Lenovo verfied it was a removabled Express card). Hard to be certain without at least one solid end user account of what the 4in1 reader is. I think what you are describing sounds accurate, I am just over thinking this and the fact that I ordered my T61 with a 4 cell trying to save weight, only to later find out the 4 cell is horrible
