Samsung, Boe-Hydis, or TMD?

My T60 came with NMB keyboard(42T3143), and TMD LCD(42T0373).

I also got LTD141EN9B so TMD aka Toshiba Matsuhita Display. I don't know if it's the best one but it's far far better then the one from my T41p.

Which panel has more wide viewing angle?

my mine is a Samsung 14" SXGA+ and i do find it pretty bright. They say it's a 150nits and 300:1 contrast ratio which is second only to the IPS ones. I knew something was up with it cuz at night i definitely have to turn it down... it's super bright.

go there - put in your type and serial number and it'll give you the part numbers. The ThinkWiki link i gave you has all of them.

This laptop screen is part number: 42T0368

Couldnot find any information on which one it is.

Keep away from Samsung panel and their grainy/snowy display. Best panels come from LG/Philips.

My T60p got the LTD141EN9B from TMD. It's clear and bright with high contrast. The LTN154U2 from my T61p far less bright and contrast is far lower. White is grainy like explain there :

I have that Samsung in my daily T40p. It was extremely bright when new, now after 4 years the CCFL is about 50% and I changed it. I realized that Samsung is using CCFLs that are operated above their specification for very bright light.

Compared to other 14" screens (I tested with Samsung and IDTech): it has a misty layer above the picture. Contrast is poor !!
In Windows contrast has to be set at 90% and brightness at 110% to get a useful color result. But then contrast is even worse.
In addition vertical viewing is really bad. You lose contrast easily. for office stuff it's ok, but movies or photos: forget it.

In my opinion, all manufacturers have stopped R&D on 4:3 screens many years ago and... today you have to buy 5 year old technology.

I have the Samsung 14.1" screen and it is great. Like ANY screen, besides the $4239324 Flexviews you guys dream of, the viewing angle is limited. I see no "line" issues like some are complaining about, nor do I have excessive "bleeding" (any screen bleeds, it's not a big deal, really). I have no complaints and it is extremely bright - I have mine defaulted to 3 bars below max brightness and sometimes it's still too much. If you want to do photography or images (read: Photoshop), get an external, a Mac, or some glossy laptop.

Seriously, you guys need to get over this whole screen thing and move on. There's a new thread about this every other day...

I have a Fleet of T42's and although I don't have the part numbers here, I will comment on Samsung vs. Boe-Hydis 14.1" SXGA+ screens.

Samsung - it's a little brighter, the natural color is "cool white" which means it's blu-ish. I have found that these screens seem to burn out.
Boe-Hydis - the colors are a little nicer but it's more of a warm (pink) color when new, and is not quite as bright. Viewing angles are excellent, close to those of an IPS display.) are significantly poorer than these

The other displays (Phillips/LG, Toshiba, IDTech) are significantly worse than these displays, according to legend on these boards (I don't own any myself.)

I'm a bit late to the party here, but so far I've testes the Samsung and the TMD panel. They're both relatively slow, but the samsung panel had better viewing angles. Also, the TMD panel's whites are cream-colored and it dithers far too much. I'm going to order a BOE Hydis panel soon, hopefully it will be better.

An update, the BOE Hydis panel has about the same viewing angles as the Samsung panel and none of the dither of the TMD, but the whites are still cream-colored.
