I plan to use XP x64 on T61. I know drivers for sound/video/LAN/WLAN exist. Did anyone have experience on issue with these driver/apps?

1) PM device driver
2) UltraNav driver
3) Power Manager app

Any other tips on installing XP x64 would be much appreciated.

Install ThinkVantag/System Update after installing XP from scratch, then let it pick up the drivers/utilities you need.

Did you manage to get all the drivers for windows xp x64? I can't get any to work. I've tried to get the wireless atheros card working first but without any joy, i've tried the vista x64 drivers but it just aint working.

Could you help me out, which drivers did you use?

Thanks,

Stu

Sorry to revive an old thread, but did any of you get XP 64 working on your T61/p's? I'm thinking of buying a 4GB T61 and don't want to depend on Vista 64 to get the most out of my memory...

I am in the same boat. I havet been driven mad by VISTA and if XP 64-bit has enough driver support I will switch.

I have some multi-processor software that I currently run on Vista 64 (but let's face it, this OS is a real disappointment and definitely not as optimal as XP).

Does anyone run XP 64-bit on either a T61 or X61? If so, any major driver problems?

I did get XP X64 working. Driver issues are a bit of a pain.

I found a driver for the Atheros wireless card and got it to work. Video drivers for 965GM from Intel.

Having issues with the AD 1984 audio drivers.

Adobe reader 8 did not work, but version 7 installed and works fine.

Also installed Office 2007 enterprise, seems to work well.

XP X64 is a very stable, responsive, operating system. If there was better driver support, many might prefer this over VISTA (and I have 64-bit Ultimate on my X61...a real let down compared to XP SP2).

This is really good to hear. Has anyone contacted AD? It would be good if someone compiled all the drivers in one zip/rar file for general consumption. I'd be happy to host it somewhere. PM me, and I'll give you my email address.

I guess if multiple people email them at the same time, they would think there was great demand. I will shoot them an email

For the XP X64 graphics driver:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... n&lang=eng

now, there is something in the "read me" about audio and it requires a Hotfix from Microsoft that you have to contact them for and then in the "read me" there are directions for the audio drivers. I am waiting on the hotfix:

KB888111

Note: there is a version of the hotfix (KB888111) on the IBM website, but it does not work on XP X64. Hopefully the one MS send me will work.

After some time I've got nearly everything working in XP x64. However, I can't seem to get hotkeys working. I installed the hotkeys package with no errors. However none of the function keys work and neither does the OSD. Anyone else had this problem?

Same here, cannot seem to get hotkeys working...Just installed XP X64 on my X61 too (lot of x's).

Bluetooth gets going with an MS update.

Man, if the driver support was there and more people knew, this thing would really threaten VISTA. This is probably my favorite OS thus far.

For my X61, the wireless is Intel's 3945abg and they have an XP X64 driver for download.

Given the general lack of support, there's absolutely no risk of that happening!

I have been pretty successful getting nearly all the drivers for my X61. I am sure you are right about the lack of hardware support and that some apps may not run under it.

The battery life of XP X64 seems much better than VISTA 64 Ultimate
