Me neither. I'm feeling more or less that there is a large marketing scam going on from these manufacturers - that at least explains why none of the large companies publish their data sheets to the public. So that the all the exact specs aren't available in public.

I'm still not sure what to think. :?

I'll try to find data sheets from LG and the U1 from Samsung...

I just found an interesting find:
http://www.notebookforums.com/thread121646.html

Find the place at where they are talking about the LTN154U1, some replies down. Notice the chart. The image has been rescaled, but the direct link to it is here:

Notice the contrast ratio of 500:1. If you look on Samsung's homepage today the same model for some reason reads 600:1

Same goes for the WSXGA+.

but that's the problem... samsung posted specs online for the LTN154U1.   the T61p has a LTN154U2 so the 600:1 contrast doesn't apply to this panel.

I got the "Optical Characteristics" sheet for the Samsung LTN154U2-L05.

Contrast Ratio (5 Points): Min 300 Typical 500
Response Time at Ta: 60msec
Average Luminance of White (5 Points): Min 160 Typical 180 cd/m^2

if that's accurate then the only difference between the samsung and LG panels should be 30 nits brightness.   i can live with that. :)

can you post a link to the sheet or host it for download?   we'd really appreciate it.

Does this document contain the info you are looking for?

no, i already have that document.   i posted a link to it at the bottom of page 1 of this thread.   while the L04 and L05 should be the same, i want the actual datasheet for the L05 for my own research.

I got it directly from Samsung as en email attachment. I was inquirying about the difference between LTN154U1 (which is listed on their website) and LTN154U2.

The response I got was the following:

"LTN154U2 is the improved version of LTN154U1 (Brightness).
Regarding the optical characteristic, please check the attached file."

The "attached file" was the optical characteristics page for the LTN154U2-L05. I'll try to figure out the best way I can host the document. In the mean time, if you need specific numbers, I can post them here. I just gave the numbers that most of you are interested in: contrast, brightness, response time. Viewing angles for the LTN154U2-L05 is the same as LTN154U2-L04.

thanks for the update.   it's good to know that the U2 model is improved over the U1.

4shared.com is great for temporary file hosting.

Looks contradicting. They told me there was only few changes between the U2 L04 and L05, like custom EDID, cosmetics or labels. That's what many sites claim also generally about the vendor specific code (typically the last three letters and numbers, here, L05 and L04).
There were numerous edition of the IDtech flexviews also (that is, N150U3-L01, L06, L03).

I'd really like to see the optical characteristic datasheet too - just for the fun of it :D
