Some problems or features with T61??

Hi,
Can you guys tell me if these are problems or just features

1. Whenever I log into the computer, I see all the desktop icons and then the screen just goes black as if it is refreshing for a second and then everything is back to normal. Is this a problem or due to some screen adjustment??

2. I run vista and I am not able to rate my computer. The tool for rating the system runs fully but once it completes does not update anything.

3. I got 1gb corsair and installed it. But I just see 2014 MB. Is the remaining being taken by the graphics card ??

Btw how do i reduce the screen brightness

I am loving the thinkpad keyboard though. Some parts of the thinkpad especially the one where the dvd drive is look weak. I mean when i lift it bends a bit too much there. Hope it does not break due to the force.

For all those who are worried about the heat issues, thinkpad is cooooooooooool. But don't keep your hand near the side vent where hot air constantly keeps flowing.

1. It's normal.
3. Yes if your T61 uses integrated intel graphics.

Click Fn+Home / Fn+End to adjust screen brightness.

3. You got a 1GB memory module, installed it, and now you only see 2GB..

What are you expecting? Did you already have a 2GB sodimm installed, and now added a 1GB sodimm in addition, so now you're expecting 3 GB?

If you're confused about basic operation, try reading the manual.
To answer your question, on the top right, along the function keys, you should see two icons that look like and up and down arrow, next to a sun. Hold down the function key, and press the button that has the down arrow. This will be the same for virtually all notebooks you will ever use.

Are you lifting the laptop via the open dvd drive? Don't.. you are absolutely correct, that will break. That part is not meant to sustain any weight whatsoever, expect the weight of a DVD.
If you mean, when you lift the laptop from that *corner* of the chassis? When the dvd drive is closed? the machine as a whole bends when you do that? *that* is not right, and something is wrong.

Hi,
I had 1GB and I installed an additional 1GB. I was expecting to see 2048MB. But I just see 2014. Not a big loss but still.

thanks
