It appears to me that you are talking about 2 different things. ethernet and wireless. They are separate devices that each have their own drivers.

Ethernet device driver

And

Intel brand wireless adapter device driver
OR
ThinkPad brand wireless adapter device driver

both ethernet and wireless cards appear in my device manager as ethernet controller. I have tried wireless card drivers, but can't work.

in win xp sp2, the ethernet controller with yellow icon can recongize thinkpad wireless card driver for vista, but when I installed, it can't work. ( of course, it is a driver for vista. Yet the the yellow ethernet controller turns out to be "thinkpad wireless ...")
The problem is the ethernet controller can't recongnize the driver for xp.

Generally speaking, if you are downloading the driver from Lenovo's site, you need to extract the driver to your hard drive first. This is done by running or double-clicking on the download. Pay attention to where the files are extracted to. Go there and run Setup.exe. Download and read over readme file for the driver for specific installation information.

If that is not your problem, maybe one of the following will get you going.
