t61p 14" first impressions

Well I just got my new 14 inch t61p...
So far so good, build quality is, on par with my old t41p, it even feels a bit sturdier, probably due to the "rollcage" wich made it about 2 mm thicker as well.
The screen is quiet a bit more offset to the right then the one from my old t14p but so far it doesn't bother me!
Screen is nice and bright, shows some light leackage at the bottom and needs to be coloradjusted (way to much red here...).
right now I am downloading 3Dmark to do some performance testing... but so far now fannoise what so ever!
Keyboard is ok.. I can see the spring mechanisms of the function keys which is kinda wired and it needs a bit more pressure then my t41p (which just got a new keyboard 5 months ago).
So far I'm pretty happy with it, its quiet, cool and the intel AGN wireless adapter is WAY better then the old Atheros in my old thinkpad...
If anyone wants comparison pictures or benchmarks....

Is this the widescreen or 4:3 version?

This is the 4:3 version!
As far as I know the t61p 14" doesn't come in widescreen!

Try running 3DMark05. It'd be interesting to see how it stacks up to its big brother.

No, someone has already compiled a list of 3DMark05 scores for many different laptop graphics cards.

I am not to happy with the results of 3DMark06 right now...
Its about 2300 3DMarks.
about 1000 Points less then on the "big" t61p...
I run on WinXP Professional with 1 gig Ram (another on is on the way...) with the 2.2 Ghz CPU...

Sir the ``big`` T61p do come with a different gpu chipset (Nvidia Quadro FX 570M), your result won`t be as higher than it.

Uh, the chipset is that same between the 15.4" and 14.1" T61p. They have different amounts of graphics memory (256MB vs 128MB), but the GPU is the same.

Thanks for catching that. I was thinking about NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (128MB), the chip for T61p is the same [Quadro FX 570M (128 MB and 256 MB)] with different memory.

pls do the test as soon as possible, cuz my t61p 14.1 is on the way, i am pretty eager to konw whether the memory of the graphic card(570m) is 128bit or not, could u show us the test by everest?
thx!

Well, I don't understand the fuzz the 14" t61p comes with 128 MB of Video Ram! I can confirm that and the specs state that as well!

Is the screen still the same "quality" like 14" SXGA+ on T4x models ? No contrast, poor viewing angles, excessive backlight bleeding.

Its gottenbetter, but not much viewing angle is still small and there is light leakeage at the botton ... not an IPS for sure...

Congratulations on your new Thinkpad!
The 3Dmark06 scores seem a little lower than usual compared to the MBP with the 128mb 8600GT. (~2500-3000) Have you tried using regular Geforce drivers to see if it improves performance? [Edit:]
Laptopvideo2go
Nonetheless, those artificial benchmarks don't mean a thing if you can run all your graphically intense programs just fine.
Finally, could you comment on your battery life? And yes, pictures would be much appreciated as well.

Well even with a complete, new installed win-xp, 2GB Ram and the newest drivers (still quadro drivers though), I don't get more then 2350 points....
Oh well I can live with it... haven't tried any games yet...
Other then that I am happy with it.
Btw. this t61p did not come with the UWB but there is an empty pci express slot under the keyboard... (could be that this is supposed to be for the Turbomemory stuff but since I ordered it with XP they didn't build it in...)...

Only 15.4 models come with UWB.

Just curious as to what the "P" designation stands for on the T61p?
I ordered a T61 recently but I don't recall seeing a T61 and T61p designation. I am guessing it has to do with one of the available options?
Thanks

Yes, I'am the compiler !

If you can run the older 3D Mark 2005, you can compare to my data base (in french but number speaks enough) :
http://forum.tt-hardware.com/topic-8173 ... t-2005.htm
I think 3D Mark 2006 likes to have 256 MB to run smooth. This can lead to lower performances then the Quadro FX 570m with 256 MB in 3D Mark 2006. But most games must run fine.

I believe the "P" stands for performance. P models are usually IBM/Lenovo's flagship notebooks. The usual difference between the normal and P model is a superior graphics chipset in the P model. In the case of the T61(P), T61s are equipped with either integrated Intel graphics or an Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M. T61Ps have an Nvidia Quadro FX 570M.

Also keep in mind you'll probably run games much better at native res compared to the T61P so it's not all bad

When I customer built my T61 I don't recall any option for the "p" model.
I am happy with mine as is, but just curious where Lenovo offered the "p" option designation?

the p stands for "professional" or "performance"...
you will find them in the mobile workstation section of the t-series...

I'am looking for the 3D Mark 2006 score (with details :3D Mark 2006, SM2, SM3, and CPU) for Quadro FX 570m 128 MB. Thank you !
It's for a new data base for GPU.

Guys, its a little OT now: What did you guys pay for the T61p? I got this one:
ThinkPad T61p Centrino Pro, Core 2 T9300, 1x2 GB, 160GB/7200rpm, DVDRW , nVidia Quadro FX 570M, 256MB VRAM, 15.4" WUXGA, Eth Giga, BT, FPR, 6 cell, Card reader 4-in-1, Robson, Vista Ultimate, Warranty:3 years (NH3D8UK)
I paid 2627$ I guess thats far beyond the current market price but unfortunately there is only one dealer here....
