I mean from press down power button to the login window. My T60 uses about 50 seconds. Is it too slow?

How often do you start it up? ;)

My X61 (with a 7K200) takes 1:05 from power button to a Vista login screen -- but I don't intend to boot more than about once a week, so whether it's 0:45 or 1:45 doesn't really matter so much in the end.

:55 to windows login then another :40 until it's done.   shutdown is under :20 on average.   this is under 2003 server standard SP1 on my T42p with a 100GB 7K100.

my s30 boots in 1:05 total and shuts down in :15 on average running XPP SP2 with a 40GB E7K60.   it's ridiculously quick for having "inferior" specs; P3 667, 256MB PC133, etc.

clearly startup/shutdown times are independent of processor speed and total memory.   a fast HDD and speed optimization within the OS are probably more important.
