PC Card Slot & Media Card Slot
PC Card Slot & Smart Card Slot

these are the options for the T61 - where can i find more info to make a educated decision?

I say ExpressCard. You can always buy an ExpressCard SmartCard or Multimedia card reader, but you won't be able to use other ExpressCards once you choose one of the others.

And about Smart Card slot; you're always able to get a PC-Card based smart card reader. So I totally agree with Tholek that you should go for the ExpressCard.
