T61p 14.1" Just Works

Hi,

I posted earlier about my problems with a T60p, and with tech support trying to get the problems fixed. I was having the Memory Parity blue screens, as well as blue screens for athr.sys.

I returned the system and got a 14.1" T61p instead. I'm posting to say that the thing just works. People tend to post only when they have a problem, so one might get the impression that these laptops are more problematic than they actually are.

No blue screens at all. And, surprisingly, I think that the Intel a/g/n card may actually be better than the Atheros a/g/n card, in my setup at least. The Intel card is working flawlessly with my D-Link DIR-655 in n mode. The Atheros card was unreliable -- this despite the fact that the DIR-655 uses an Atheros chipset!

I have the Alps keyboard. I have to say that I prefer this to the NMBs I've used. It offers more substantial feedback.

I purchased the T61p thinking that I'd have to swap out the Intel card for an IBM/Atheros, and would likely have to swap out the keyboard for an NMB. Turns out everything is fine the way it is.

I should also say that I'm using Vista Ultimate, and the only issue I'm having with it is the slow network file transfers problem, which is a known issue.

well did you update it with the patches? I can push up to 12MB/s over 100Mbit LAN and 2-3 on my 54Mbps router.

Happy you got your system working nicely tho... nothing is sweeter than a fine tuned machine
