T61p PC Card/Express Card

#1 Post by minehan » Thu Aug 23, 2007 11:57 am

I have a T61p 6457-5ku that came with a PC Card/Smart Card but want to replace it with a PC Card/Express Card Slot (FRU 42X3827). I have the Maintenance Manual and can see how to replace the slots (seems like I have to completely disassemble the notebook  ) but does anyone know whether the PC Card/Express Card slot will work with my model T61p? Any other advice?

The purpose in doiing this is to use an Express Card SSD for ReadyBoost.

Thanks.

Have you found any good performance benchmarks or battery life benchmarks when doing this?

The laptop is used 99% of the time in a docking station on my desk so battery life is not an issue for me. I've read in other threads of a noticeable improvement in performance and that is why I am considering the express card.

I would love to see some real performance numbers with a SSD ReadyBoost. Its cheap to pickup a 4GB ExpressCard SSD drive and use 2GB for ReadyBoost and the other 2GB for storing files.
