T60 recovery - failed to restore error

#1 Post by jeffh » Fri Aug 24, 2007 6:12 am

Hi All,

Have inherited a T60 that will not boot windows and cannot be restored to factory default - fails with unhelpful error 'Product recovery failed to restore your system'. Have no original system disks, manuals or backup files. How can I recover the system, or is it a basket case?

thanks,
jeff

You should probably check out your hard drive. See below.

Set the security for the Predesktop Area to Disabled, then run one of the following utilities to check your hard drive. If your hard drive passes, then use the appropriate utility below to low-level format the hard drive (write all zeros to the drive). After low-level formatting the drive, set the security for the Predesktop Area back to Normal and try your Product Recovery Discs again.

Hitachi Drive Fitness Test

Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool and Erase Utility

Samsung HUTIL

If your hard drive checks out OK, you can purchase a set of Product Recovery Discs from Lenovo for about $45, to restore all the original software.
