Anyone figure out 3945ABG issues?

(on my T60 1953-D6U)
IIRC, awhile back when the T60 came out...people were [censored] about intermittant wifi loss and stuff...
I was not experiencing it at the time but lately I am.
I have tried 3 different brand APs...
And I am running the latest driver (11.1.1.16)
and at times (all random) - I loose wifi and then see this in the event viewer:
The system detected that network adapter \DEVICE\TCPIP_{403B0BE0-0BD8-4695-8561-AAF281158F4B} was connected to the network, and has initiated normal operation over the network adapter.
Typically, I will see a 'freeze' of my wifi and then this message and then I am resumed my session. Most of the time, nothing drops (like AIM or any ssh/telnet session).
I am really getting frustrated and was wondering if anyone has any insight..
I run 802.11g with WPA2/AES PSK.
I ran netstumbler for hours and only see channels 6 and 11 in use in my area (typical)..so I set my AP to use channel 10 and then channel 3 and then channel 9. It does not seem to matter which channel I use (sadly).
Any thoughts/fixes?
If this is the 'way' it is with the 3945ABG, can someone suggest a kick a$$ PCMICA card for this?
EDIT: Does anyone know the IBM/Lenovo part number for the IBM a/b/g atheros card? I think its 40y7026...?
I also presume 'n' is not available on this machine but dont know how to tell....
Maybe its time to ditch the Intel...
