Intel AGN cannot renew IP address

My T61's Intel AGN works flawlessly with Access Connections except for one strange issue.
Every day when my computer has been idle for a few hours I get a little symbol in the taskbar indicating that the wireless network connection is trying to renew the IP address. Problem is that Windows XP is not controlling the wireless connection, Access Connections is.
While windows tries (and fails) to renew its IP address, Access Connections remains connected. I can even go into AC and renew the IP address of the wireless connection just fine, but Windows still keeps churning away trying (and failing) to renew the IP address itself.
Anyone know what's going on and why there's this conflict between Windows and AC? Usually it's just more of an annoyance but occasionally the AC connection will get disconnected, presumeably by Windows, requiring me to reconnect.
