Thinkpad T61 different designation (P)
Thinkpad T61 different designation (P)
I posted a question in one of the other threads but I have been unable to "see" the different designations for the T61 Thinkpad models. As one reply to my question said, the video card choice upped the performance of the T61 that was built with this, so it became a "perfomance" model or a T61"p".
I purchased my T61 off the Lenovo website a few weeks ago because I need a reliable notebook for my job. I customized it of course and at no point during the customization process did I get an option or distinction for the "P" by choosing certain options.
My point is that if I wanted the "performance" T61 it doesn't tell me where to click, or what option to add-on that gives you a T61P?
When I ordered mine, I don't recall a choice of videocards.
Now I am an above average computer user but by no means an expert. I am loyal to the IBM/Thinkpad Brand because it is the best.
Heres the specs on mine:
-Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.) GHZ 800MHZ 4MBL2)
-Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic
-15.4 WSXGA+ TFT
-Intel GMA X3100 GM965 w/WWAN
-1GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHZ SODIMM Memoery (1DIMM)
-Intel Turbo Memory 1GB
-UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad)
-160GB Hard Disk Drive
-DVD recordable 8X Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim
-Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
-6 cell Li-Ion Battery
Does my T61 configuration have the "P" or any other designation?
I am happy with my T61 but can anyone clarify my confusion?

Re: "S" designation
I saw it listed in another post in the T6X thread---I didn't know about the "P" designation so I assumed the "S" was another configuration option.
It may have been a typo.

Re: "S" designation
Daniel,
I couldn't find that post which mentioned an "S" designation, so I edited my original post as the "S" post was probably a typo that was fixed by the original poster.

Re: "S" designation
It was probably a reference to the X61s. As far as I know, there's no "s" designation for the T61.tandyman wrote:I saw it listed in another post in the T6X thread---I didn't know about the "P" designation so I assumed the "S" was another configuration option.

Re: "S" designation
Very true and "S" in X series stands for small due to size and LV/ULV processor of this machine. However if the OP saw T61s written somewhere then that probably meant "T61 series" but lenovo never awarded "S" designation officialy / unofficialy to it, it's just a term users use online to shorten things out.nonny wrote:It was probably a reference to the X61s. T61 "P" designation
I finally found where the T61P option is on the Lenovo website.
Here it is for anyone who may have trouble locating the option, like myself.
Thanks for all the responses!

To answer your question, your model is a T61. It does not have the Nvidia Quadro FX 570M graphics chip so it does not get the "P" designation.
To further muddy things up, you're able to configure your choice of graphics cards through the education portal. I'm curious whether picking a plain T61 and choosing the Nvidia Quadro FX 570 option will automatically turn your T61 into a T61P. I hope to find the answer by the end of the week.
