I have recently experienced a battery charge failure on my T60 (2623-D6U)

Though my power manager lists my battery at 93% of capacity, the orange battery light continue to blink. When the power supply cord is removed, my Thinkpad turns completely off even though the battery is installed.

This has happened to some of my classmates' thinkpads (T60 and z43) and we think it maybe due to a recent update. Has anyone else experienced this?

*My Battery is the standard (4 cell?) battery that came with the laptop. It is manufactured by Sanyo and was not affected by the recall.

Sadly it is an all too frequent occurrence. Normally one has a perfectly 'good' battery one day, the next day one has a 'failed to charge battery that needs to be replaced' Now a few lucky people have reported this and that they removed the battery and reinserted it and the battery was fine. For most people the battery needs to be replaced.

Far more people have reported this defect, than batteries bursting into flames ~ yet this seems to be hardly acknowledged as a problem by Lenovo. And yes for many people this seems to occur after installing a power driver, or manager update but it has been occurring for at least a year and there have been many updates in that year!

Perhaps it is a bad mother board, perhaps it is a bad driver, I believe if it happens once, it will happen again, it is simply a question of time. Generally if you contact Lenovo and complain they have in the past replaced the battery (provided the cycle count is low)

If your T60 is less then 1 year old then the battery is still under warrantee and you should have no problem getting Lenovo to replace it.

I am also having trouble with a 9 cell battery, orange battery charge indicator blinking. Just picked up my T60p 2623-DDU from the repair center, they replaced the mother board for a NMI: Parity Error, caused by the insertion of FireWire 800 Express Card. Before the mother board replacement the cycle count on the battery was low, maybe 30—35, and Power Manager showed the battery condition as green. Now, in the Battery Details page everything is blank, no name , cycle count, install date.. nothing, battery icon in the tray is white with a big red “X”. Mobmeter shows zero charge current. I have reseated the battery several times, and the pins from the mother board appear to seat well into the battery. My computer spends most of the time in a Mini Doc, so the battery was not being cycled very much. Any ideas before I return the computer to the repair center

I had the same problem didnt use the unit in 3 weeks and then the cursed blinking light.....yello....amber....amber.... Battery has recieved a critical error ..replace battery.


I just placed an order luckily it was a recall item. Never know unless you input the digits.

Sir, I don't believe 4 cell battery for T60 and thinkpad z43 even exists. Nevertheless, lenovo will send you a replacement battery regardless of the problem as long as it falls under 1 yr. warranty or if it's a recalled battery.

As for the z43... Emmm... what's that? The z series started it's first Z60 model... Only heard of T43..

Sir, do 14'' Widescreen T60/R60 models exists? Ofcourse Not.

The link you quoted is a typo on lenovo website and the battery under question is merely meant for T61/R61 machines. Please see this.
