R&R Startup Disk

#1 Post by tlsrulz » Wed Aug 29, 2007 8:11 am

So I created a R&R4.0 Startup Disk CD and have the retore info on 1 DVD.

I decided to restore the laptop.. so booted of the Startup CD... when it got to the point of copying the i386 startup (the miniNT) .. it complained about 1 file ... "Error 999 copying file xxxxx" and when I click on OK .. it stops.. Note this is on the Startup Disk.... I have not put the DVD in yet.

Suffice to say it has deleted the harddisk... so now I'm stuck.

I thought hmm.. maybe my Startup CD is bad or scratched.. so I reinstalled XP (my work copy)... and then re-installed the R&R4 to create another startup CD... but then when I boot with this CD, and choose a Factory restore, after it deletes the harddisk, I get a message that "Factory Restore has been disabled"... I'm guess this is because the Recovery partition is gone from the harddisk and when I create the CD if it does not see it, it disables this option. (but remember I have it on DVD).

So what to do now.. anyone know if I can get my hands on a Startup Disk (that will let me do a factory restore).

Thanks

Call IBM at 1-800-IBM-SERV and explain the situation. They will mail you the startup disks and waive the $50 charge, I bet.
