T61p WUXGA vs WSXGA+ ?

#1 Post by {ISV-K}SVX » Fri Aug 31, 2007 8:27 pm

Has anyone gotten the new T61p in either of these formats and would be willing to comment on the following? I just sold my Z61p which had a WUXGA screen, however, the brightness was a tad lacking. I ordered a T61p with the WSXGA+ screen and am wondering how the brightness would be. I prefer the higher resolution but will not give up brightness for it as I did for the Z. What is the WUXGA screen like? Is it the same panel as the Z61p (ie like 180nits)?

Advice appreciated.

the FRU number for the WUXGA panel listed in the T61p's HMM is now different from the one listed in the Z61p's HMM.   this leads me to believe that the T61p's panel is indeed newer, different, better, etc.

so far i'm extremely happy with my T61p's samsung panel (LTN154U2-L05).   it's markedly brighter than my T42p's 15" IPS UXGA and equally color-accurate after hardware calibration.

fwiw, i currently have the brightness turned down three clicks to save stress on my eyes.   supposedly the LG WUXGA panel is even brighter but it's a total crap shoot whether or not you'll get that panel with your T61p.

all of them are dim in comparison to external displays though -- save for the 330nit LED WXGA panel in the 15.4" apple MBP.

Just because the FRU numbers are different in the HMM/PDG's does not mean they are physically different or from different manufacturers. I work for IBM and used to be a part of the TP team yrs ago. A FRU is assigned to every component of a system and under most circumstances will differ between systems. Occasionally systems might share the same FRU - typical on high commodity items such as memory and harddrives. However, on items that command a hefty premium IBM/Lenovo will assign different FRU numbers such as might be the case with the WUXGA screen. Coming from an IBM System X/Bladecenter currently, this practice is still common.

what is the manufacturer's part number of your Z61p panel?   mine is a samsung LTN154U2-L05.   knowing this will eliminate any FRU number confusion and allow a true comparison based on manufacturer's specs.
