yes... a dent ... just about when i complete shut down my t61p and closed the lid. through the reflection of the light, i see a dent on my lid !!!!. nowi am really frustrated ... have you guys ever notic the spot? it's located at the top of the lid towards the middle. and it matches the circle in the middle right next to all the light indicators you see when you open your notebook. you can feel it when you swipe your finger across the lid

mine actually has a slight bulge in the middle from the subframe. no dents though.
EDIT: clarified 'bump' as 'bulge' instead.

I'm currently looking at two of them and neither has a dent on the lid.

Are you 100% sure you didn't cause that yourself?t61puser wrote:bad factory build quality? defect?

yea 100% sure just got it for 3days didn't move it or anything.
one more thing i am curious is that the ding matches with one of the three circles on the inside. i assuem those are the spot where the screw is going in? and potential cause the dent on the outside?

Call Lenovo and ask if you can return it and get a replacement.
That's quite likely. Don't do anything at this point, but if Lenovo refuses to replace it, loosen the screw a little bit and see if that fixes the problem. Looks like it was tightened too strong.t61puser wrote:i assuem those are the spot where the screw is going in? and potential cause the dent on the outside?

at this point i am really hesistant to do an return and lose 15% of restocking fee and wait for like a month on the replacment. but then if i do this then i have to live with the stupid dent on my thinkpad which is not suppost to happen and making me feel like i am the only one with a defect thinkpad
Are you even reading this thread? Because multiple people have offered you advice and you seem to have read over it. Lenovo will replace the lid if you want, or you can try loosening the screw that is in that same location. How hard is that?t61puser wrote:at this point i am really hesistant to do an return and lose 15% of restocking fee and wait for like a month on the replacment. but then if i do this then i have to live with the stupid dent on my thinkpad which is not suppost to happen and making me feel like i am the only one with a defect thinkpad

If Lenovo admits it's their fault, they might waive the restocking fee. You won't know until you've called them.t61puser wrote:at this point i am really hesistant to do an return and lose 15% of restocking fee

heh, i just looked and mine has a dent there, too. obviously i missed it the first time so it's not easy to see. it's probably just from the screw being tightened too much as others have said. it's no big deal to me though. it doesn't affect performance one bit and if it later cracks then lenovo owes me a new cover. simple.

loosen up
whay don't you guys loosen up the screw. If it is like my 60P the screw is right under the LCD (can be seen without any disassembly) just covered with a black circular piece of adhesive plastic.

T-61 Bulge on center of lid
Good Evening one and all.
I'm sitting here with my daughter in law's new T61, 15.4" and notice that the center of the lid had a rather large bulge in the center area. It's lower at the sides, but is bumped up in the middle.
I assume everyone is talking about a dent at a different location, but would like to bring this bulge to the groups attention.
Is it possible that the bulge is do to the wide screen format of this unit or what? Does this sound normal for this model or is this spacific to my daughter in law's T-61 ?
I can say that my T-60 14.1" is perfectly flat across the lid.
Thanks in advance for your time.
Steve

Truthfinder, it is that way by design. You can read about it in Lenovo's official blog here:

re. the dent..
when they assemble thinkpads (or most any electronic "thing") an electric screwdriver is used and it has a torque setting that SHOULD not allow such dimples to occur..
those of you who are experienceing this SHOULD bring it to the attention of lenovo..
