T60 Beep won't go away

The annoying keyboard beep that has plagued countless Thinkpads won't go away on my T60.

Usually it's a simple task of removing the "beep" from the non-plug-and-play devices in the device manager. It worked on my T42.

But on my T60 I still hear the beep whenever I press multiple keys at once, even though I removed the "beep" item from the device manager, rebooted countless times, and actually checked to see that it doesn't come back! It's not in the device manager, but I still hear it.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried disabling it instead of removing it? Device manager -> View -> Show Hidden Devices, under Non-Plug and Play Drivers, disable the Beep device.

I think you have to disable beep and not remove it. If you remove it i think it will reappear.

It seems that you guys are right. I disabled it and it seems gone now. Although I had to do it twice - I think it has something to do with docked and undocked states.

Thanks!

Thanks for this, but on my X60s when I go to Device Manager -> there is no "View." I can get to "Show Hidden Devices," but once there, there is no route to get to "Non-Plug and Play Drivers," etc.

Would the route be different on an X60? :?:

Thanks.

With Windows XP anyway, you click on View > Show hidden devices, then look at the list on the left between Network adapters and PCMCIA adapters for Non-Plug and Play Drivers. Not sure how Vista displays this information. This has nothing to do with whether it is an X60s or T42 or desktop PC. This is a Windows XP function. I believe this is also in Windows 2000, and perhaps even other versions of Windows.

On Vista it looks exactly the same.
