T61p now only with WSXGA+ Screen?

#1 Post by Proteus » Sun Sep 02, 2007 9:11 am

Now I'm scared...The 15.4" T61P I just ordered has the WSXGA+ screen, not the WUXGA. Its actually going to work great for gaming, but as a resolution whore, this will be a downgrade for work. My T41P has SXGA+, so this will probably be equivalent DPI.

Question is the quality? How decent is this going to be compared to the WUXGA? I don't think its an IPS screen, but I'm hoping its a good one. Anyone know who manufactures the 15.4 widescreen SXGA+ in the T61p?

you can always call lenovo to order a T61p WUXGA.   backorder time is unknown but a salesperson should have a decent idea.

the WSXGA+ panel is either an LG or samsung.   it's a crap shoot on which one you'll get.   i have a samsung WUXGA panel and am perfectly happy with it after having used 15" UXGA panels since 2001.

if you want WUXGA and are prepared to wait then give lenovo a call.   if you want a T61p in a few weeks then you'll have to get a WSXGA+ panel.

General consensus is that the WSXGA+ screens (especially the LG) are superior to the WUXGA screens, specifically in brightness.

has anyone compared samsung and LG panels side-by-side for a true comparison?   every manufacturer measures brightness differently and published specs are, for the most part, purely academic.   i'd love to see hard evidence of two equal thinkpads side-by-side to put all of this speculation to rest. :)

There was a guy on notebookreview that returned 4 notebooks until he finally received one with the better screen. Other than that, I can't think of someone who has done a side by side comparison.

i haven't seen the samsung WSXGA+ panels to know how they compare to the samsung WUXGA panel.   i'd be curious to see an LG WUXGA panel next to mine.   for about $300~400 i could buy an LG panel but that would negate much of the discount i got on my T61p in the first place.

my WUXGA panel is [censored] bright though.   most of the time it's turned down a few clicks just to save strain on my eyes.

I own both WSXGA+ and WUXGA(LG/Philips).

No idea someone claimed that WSXGA+ is auperior to the WUXGA, which I don't think it is correct.

Only thing I can tell is once you have WUXGA, you know what it is.
