Hey guys, I pulled the trigger on a T61P because of the incredible savings I had with a 20% off coupon but I'm wondering if I made the right decision.

Smart Card slot reads smartcards (duh) and does not read SD cards.

Next time, ask these questions before buying something!

That isn't helpful guys... I can always cancel the order anyway.

The smartcard reader thing.. Well, that threw me off. I have an external "smart card"reader meaning that it has one slot to read SD, MiniSD, MicroSD, etc.

I presume you mean the wide screen when you say 4:3.

But you can no longer use that coupon to order something else. Like I said, it's better to ask before purchasing.

I believe he ordered the 14.1" SXGA+ screen (no widescreen)

To your query, I think you'll be much satisifed by the SXGA+ screen. You will get the 128MB 570M because the 256MB generates much more heat unable to handle on a tiny chassis.

I've never owned a WS laptop, but I'm very satisfied by the IBM laptop I've had in the past. The only thing that bothers me in my T42p SXGA+ is the screen brightness set at high makes difficult to see the screen bright in sunlight conditions. For indoor use is great.

Not the point.. Nobody can use the coupon for anything again ever because it expired. Even if it didn't, I could just cancel and reorder. Even if I couldn't do that, i'd have my wife do it under her name.. Whatever, that doesn't matter. I saw a deal and jumped on it but i'm not worried about that.

My entire reason for this thread is whether or not I will be happy with the 4:3 screen (which I seem to be with my T60) or whether i'd really want the WS instead. See, i've never seen the T61 15'' WS. I know it's roughly the same size as my old Z60M but thinner? I also wanted to know from those that love their 14'' 4:3 rather that a WS.

The preference for 4:3 versus widescreen is very personal. Whether one is better than the other has been debated hundreds of times on this forum and there's still no clear winner. You need to make this decision for yourself. BTW, widescreens have many advantages besides widescreen movies.

Regarding dimensions and weights, fairly accurate information can be found in the Tabook downloadable from this site. If you want the lightest T6*, the 14.1" widescreen T61 is the lightest, but it has a lower display resolution (up to 1440x900) and shorter battery life (4-cell) than the slightly heavier 14.1" 4:3 version (1400x1050 and 6-cell).

How often is tabook updated?

I ordered a 6459 and it's not in the book. Should I just keep checking?

Thanks piano. I am happy with the size of the 4:3 T60 so Ithink i'll be okay with the SXGA+ screen. I do not want the 14" widescreen because the resolution is horrible for me.

I've read almost all debates on the WS and the 4:3 and I was set on WS until I saw and bought my used T60 4:3. It's nice and light and the resolution makes up for the loss in width fron the WS.

I really wish that there were notebooks I could look at in a store because all my questions would be answered.

I love my 14" SXGA+ screen on my T61, looks great after some calibration. About the size, works fine for me, I don't know how or why someone wouldn't like it.

I just realized that I did a quote on 8/30 with the 20 percent coupon and I accidentally omitted the smartcard reader (had the express card reader instead). I turned that quote into an order and will cancel the original order with the smart card.

Smartcard problem solved! (and I saved 20 bucks)

I don't think i'll get anywhere with my questions but all in all:

was the 20% coupon on top of the 25% holiday savings a good deal for a new machine? Will Lenovo have a better sale coming up?

I love my T60 and ordered the T61 because of the savings but if I don't need it or better savings are coming up, i'll cancel all and wait...

I'm not sure if i'm going to have my questions answered but I wod just like to know...

All in all, did I get good price with the 25 percent sale and the 20 percent coupon? I've been following the lenovo site for a bit and they've never been that low (that I know of). Especially for a T61P. I used to never even look at the P's but this price was great.

I am very happy with my fairly new T60 and wouldn't mind keeping it if there are going to be better sales coming up. The only reason I got the T61 was because of the price being so good...

Thanks guys for any input... this is my first purchase of a new TP from Lenovo.

I guess it's just personal preference when comes to the 4:3 vs wide screen part.
I have a 4:3 screen T60 and I love it. I read a lot of pdf files on my laptop, and it will be painful to read those files on a widescreen (unless you have a tablet which allows u to rotate the screen). All my previous laptops have 12.1" screen and I think the 4:3 14" T60 gives me a much higher resolution when I need to write code while still be light enough for me to carry it around. 15" WSXGA+ is good too, but I don't like to carry the extra 1lb everyday.

You got 45% off, of course you got a good deal. :? Will they have a better deal in the future? Probably, but I don't think anyone can answer that question with complete certainty.

Actually, "only" 40%. 25% = 0.75, and 20% = 0.80. 0.75 x 0.80 = 0.60, i.e. 40% off.

Of course there will be better deals in the future, but not in the very near future.

CRSO, you know what I'd do if I were you? I would sell the T60 as soon as the T61p arrives and keep the T61p. I'm sure you can get at least $700 for it.
