BEEP again...but a tricky one, when coming back from sleep!

Hi all,

Since I wanted to have no password asked when coming back from quick sleep (Fn + F4) but still a password when coming back from normal sleep (Fn + F12), I've activated the "power-on password" in the bios and disactivated the password coming from sleep in Windows.
Actually it works perfectly BUT another problem came up: I already had killed every possible annoying BEEPS but when I'm coming back from normal sleep (Fn + F12), if I don't do the fingerprint or the password within the minute, I have a HUGE BEEP! And when I mean HUGE...well, that's HUGE! The one, every classmate look at you with those kind of eyes -->

Does someone know how to kill this last BEEP for now and ever ?

FN+F12 is Hibernate and FN+F4 is sleep. You should actually definitely put a password there too unless your system never leaves your house because if you have it out in the open and someone swipes it then all of your data is viewable to anyone.

As for the last beep i don't think anything can be done about that one. The resume from sleep and power button and going to sleep beeps are all able to be disabled. The beep i think is to let you know the system is read for input. usually you can just press the volume mute button as soon as you open the lid and that'll mute all sounds.

No, a password after sleep would be useless because when I move my laptop, I always use the hibernate function. I only use the sleep function when I have to move my laptop inside a building, so that I always carry it with me, no chance of getting stolen. And it wakes up muuuuuuuuch more faster that way, that's the main interest! When I have to go outside, I carry it in my backpack --> hibernate

Concerning the volume, I don't think so because you're actually not yet in Windows, so the volume mute doesn't work. The only way is to plug your earphone so that if it beeps, it isn't audible. But I'll try tonight...

the mute button is actually hardware based and totally seperate from Windows. If you noticed (unlike some other laptops) when you press mute on the keyboard the volume still shows unmuted in Windows.

This has been pain the but for some people because they are complaining about no sounds and didn't realize the mute button is active

Oh yeah right, I really thought it was software-based, I'm really surprised! And it works indeed, I only need to remember to press the mute button if I might not be present when the laptop will be asking the password
