Odd power-up problem

Folks,
I have a new T61 that I'm quite happy with. It's got a base configuration of software running on the Vista platform and it's been very stable for my use thus far!
I am having one very strange problem however. I regularly use the hibernate feature to shut the system down overnight. However, if the computer is plugged into the LAN, it'll powerup within about 5 minutes. If I disconnect the LAN cable, it does not powerup.
I've tried numerous steps to determine what's going on. The Event viewer, unfortunately, is of very little help - when the device powers up, I get the following in the event list:
The system has resumed from sleep.
Sleep Time: 9/6/2007 2:10:41 PM
Wake Time: 9/6/2007 2:12:04 PM
Wake Source: Unknown
Looking at the XML that provides more details, the WakeSource tags all indicate either "0" or "" depending on type.
I've gone into the BIOS and turned off all the Wake-on-LAN features and also made certain that the Intel AMT features are turned off.
I've gone into the scheduler to validate that no scheduled events specify that the device should power-up if the event is triggered.
I've gone into LiveUpdate to change it's schedule to update once per day (I think the configured update time was every 5 minutes).
I hate the fact that multiple different applications have their own schedulers and I've got a sneaking suspicion that there some application that has it's own scheduler that's waking the system. However, the system only wakes when there's a network cable attached which is really odd.
I do *not* have any desktop management software installed that might have this type of behaviour. As far as Wake-on-LAN goes, all my systems in the office (~ 10 of them in this location) have Wake-on-LAN enabled except for the T61 and I have nothing on the network that would send the Wake-on-LAN magic packet.
Has anyone else noticed this behaviour? Has anyone figured out what's happening?
It's not a huge issue - if I want to make sure the device stays in hibernation, I just disconnect the network. However, I don't like it when things don't work like they're supposed to (that's why I bought a Thinkpad - I like things to work and keep working properly
.
Any suggestions would be welcome!
Thanks,
SK
